The wapiti herd was stable in numbers this year. Often seen in Estes Park, or on the local golf courses, the elk know where the green grass is. Human visitors were less this year, due to the pandemic restrictions, which seemed to embolden the elk herd to wander thoughout town. The rutting season lasted the entire month of September and well into early October.

A little snow fell during the rutting season. This snow was heavy at higher elevations, which slowed down the wildland fire.
